Over 150 riders gathered in Falls City to sample some of the best DH & FR riding the northwest has to offer. A lousy forecast scared almost 50 of the registered riders off, but another 50 unregistered riders showed up, helping raise even more funds to be earmarked for developing downhill and freeride trails in the west Portland area.
Fortunately, the rain died down in the afternoon, and riders that stuck it out were rewarded with killer riding conditions. The dirt was slippery in some spots, and riders were soaked, but good times were had by all. We even rode a good amount of the wood stuff- my brother Izaak was on a mission. Although it was his first time riding Granny’s Kitchen, he had to hit the new step up line from NWD 10. (Wet wood: scary)
The weather made it tricky to shoot a lot of pics; fortunately there was an umbrella in the car that worked to shelter my camera. Between my G10 and the GoPro Hero I managed to accumulate enough footage to cut a brief highlight reel. Check it out:
Matt Gillis of the Statesman Journal rode with Izaak, Max and I for a few runs and posted his footage, story, and photos online here.

Once again, sweet vid.
And to think I was standing just down the road a bit (waiting to get picked up by truck heading back down) with my Nikon camera hanging around my kneck when that stuff Izaak was pulling off on the cheese grater into step up was going down…
ah well. Can’t always be in the right place at the right time, eh?
nice work on the vid. Really fun to watch. Like seeing from perspective of participant from waiting in line, riding in truck, to flowing down the trails…
@Cliffy: thanks homie
@Joe: thanks Joe, we’ll have to come ride again in the dry stuff! I still need to hit it.. and then there is that unfinished business with the road gap. Good times!
Hi- Fantastic pictures! I was pictured with my husband Matt & friends Mo (the other girl), Tyson, and our foster son John at the second to the end of your Blackrock Shuttle day photos. Can you please send me a link to that picture so I can print it??? To refresh- you asked to take our pictures to show your lady that other girls were out there getting dirty and she should have come to play. I hope to see you both at Blackrock again soon! Please, if you will, send the picture to leaann.matt@comcast.net. Thanks!
