Freeride bikes for sale. click here.

Interbike is coming up and I don't even have my travel plans set up yet. I'm still determined to make it there. It sounds like I may have a place to crash covered Wednesday and Thursday at least.

I've been thinking a lot about the direction I want to take this site. To go artsy, news based, or web log only; as my design teacher taught me, form should follow function.

Another sunny day in Oakland, California. Its 70 degrees F outside. Looking at Portland's forecast, I see it's 60 and cloudy. I have to admit it, I'm having mixed thoughts when it comes to California livin'. I actually miss Portland. When I am back there, it still feels familiar. Its hard to believe its been about two years since I moved away. I find myself questioning why I'm here in the bay area fairly regularly. I could be living the same lifestyle I have now in Portland and buying my own house, as opposed to paying someone else a third of my income. The weather is nice, but if I don't actually get out and enjoy it, I forget the point.

We're coming up on the year mark soon though. Usually after I've lived somewhere for a year, I start feeling better about it. Friends and connections are made and established, and progression towards goals are made.

Speaking about goals, Jeff, the art director@ Dirt Rag just sent me the final proof of issue #110. My painting of Wes's roof is featured as the cover.

I read in the news about another American being beheaded by Militants earlier. My curiosity won, and I looked for it on google using the search words "beheading." I found the video in two tries. I'm not sure if I needed to see it. It's not a thing one needs to see. It was disturbing.

If you haven't heard yet, your high-end Kryptonite U-lock isn't that secure after all. It can be picked using a bic ball point pen. I first heard about it a yesterday from a customer at the Pedaler. He said he read about it on fark.com, which worried me, as I check the fark news every couple of days. Last night I checked a few cycling bulletin boards. The internet is buzzing with the revelation. Maybe just a few bike thieves knew about it before, but now everyone does. I haven' t called Kryptonite yet, but I hear they are redesigning all the locks. No word on that yet, but I think its safe to say I'm not comfortable using my u-lock alone to secure my bikes. This is huge news. Read more here.

I just read some more on the subject here.

Ashland was fun. My Heckler is definitely the sweetest all around bike I've ever ridden. I think the only things I want to change on the bike are: A. The fork. The Marzocchi Z1 freeride SL is a great trail fork, but for a half pound more and a few hundo, I could have another inch of adjustable travel and 20mm axle. And B. If I put a bar with less rise on the bike, it would climb noticeably better without sacrificing downhill handling.

Today we went into San Francisco and watched a road race. I took some pictures.
