10/28/04 A trip to the hospital and 12 stitches couldn't put a damper on another killer day of riding! If you don't like the sight of blood, you may not want to read this! All that, and I get a lesson on why I should always pack my knee pads.
Check Ryan out with this serious gap. Sick! Ryan has a green van complete with green shag carpeting, and fake wood paneling; a very useful vehicle for shuttling bikes. Here's Ryan and Ian kickin' it on the couch.
Here's Forest from MTBR.com testing out his Santa Cruz VP Free.
We were all having a good time until I took a section way too fast, and completely ate it. I bonked my head, but thanks to my helmet, I was alright. I cut my knee on my bike's cable guides though, and tore a huge hole in my knee! How could I have forgotten to pack my knee pads? I won't do that again.
I went to the hospital for this one. Four internal stitches, eight on the outside, right below my knee cap. I really wish I had my knee pads on. It was a deep gash that barely missed damaging the tendon below my knee.
On an up note, I thought I had lost my favorite sunglasses, I was kind of in shock after the crash. I am happy to say that I found them; in my daze, I had placed them on the roof of my car, and they somehow wedged themselves into the roof rack, staying on after several miles on the freeway, and to the hospital and back. I was so stoked I hadn't lost them!
I was still feeling dazed as I packed up to drive to the hospital. Thanks again go out to my girl Jamie, for waiting over 3 hours for me at the hospital. I spent most of the afternoon in the emergency room getting cleaned and sewn back together. Props again to Tom, the man that stitched me up(very nicely I might add), and let me watch. Hopefully it heals well and I don't see any infection. And to Forrest, for offering to take me to the hospital. Thanks again guys, for taking me riding! The doc said I'd be good to go for next week(I'll have to take it easy though.) |
