Some thoughs on the healing process
All this down time from riding is frustrating, but what can you
do? It has given me a lot of time to reflect on the healing process.
I also finished several of the games I've been playing on my PS
2. I've over the halfway point in my cast, which is a relief. I'm
looking forward to being get around again.
The first week of being broken definitely was the worst. I was
on at least one vicodin at a time, and spent the entire time on
the couch in a daze. Week two gets a bit better, although returning
to work was not fun. Unless the foot was elevated, it throbbed.
Fortunetly, on week three, it's not so bad. At that point, I was
off the major meds, and able to hobble around alright. I just want
to be able to pedal around again.

I was going through some files, and found shots I took of local
DH home boy Ian launching the jump I broke my foot on. The photos
give a pretty good idea of how fast I was going when I over shot
the gap.

Five more weeks of this cast, and then I graduate to the walking
cast. I can't wait to get this thing off my leg.

One year ago
My last trip to the hospitol was a year ago this month. I'm no
longer allowed to ride bikes during the month of October.
This is last year's post: October 2004.
Check out the irony. The gap in the picture is the one I overshot.
Somehow I launched extremely high off that lip. It doesn't even
look hard does it? I had a bad feeling about it.. maybe that's why
I never hit it until now. The stupid thing is that it was all just
in my head. And I'll be dwelling on it for the next 6 weeks at least.

Still broken..
I can't believe how sick I am of sitting on the couch. It's been
four days and I'm still feeling like crap. I got out of the house
briefly with my homie Josh and managed some errands.(making sure
the rent check doesn't bounce) The foot still throbs like crazy
after being upright for more than a few minutes. Hopefully I'll
be able to work soon, because I'm going to be broke after all is
said and done. Now I'm wishing I got Aflack. Hindsight's a bitch,
huh?
After Friday's
bad luck I thought my stupid crash quota for the month was out
of the way. When I got home Sunday from weekend in Tahoe with my
girlfriend, I ran out to do a little bit of riding with Theo and
Ian in the Oakland hills.
After arriving, I hit the jump at the parking lot. On my first
shot my left Welgo pedal completely self destructed. The pedal cage
just completely fell off the spindle. This was a bad sign. Bad sign
number two. A friendly rider we ran into had just broken his pedal
as well, and let me use his remaining good one. I was fairly stoked
and hit the smaller jump again, and tried to dial in my x-ups on
my Enduro.
And then I decided to launch the longer gap. For some reason I
have been apprehensive of this hit. I wanted to make sure I would
clear it, so I started way up by the road and hauled ass at the
hit. I had more than enough speed, and didn't set up quite right
off the take off. My right foot came off my pedal at mach speed
as I dead sailored through the air, and I watched as I over shot
the landing.
That night my foot ended up looking like this.

I'm broken
I had some bad luck this weekend. How bad was it? Bad. I done broke
myself.
Now I'm in a cast with my foot elevated, in order to keep a solid
amount of pain at bay. Even with 2 vicodin in me I'm not feeling
so wonderful. A large black cast is keeping my right foot trapped
and immobilized. And this is my third day.
What happened? I got a bit off balance off the lip of a jump. In
the air, I stuck my right foot out. Upon landing, several bones
in my foot exploded on impact. Not so good.
Several doctors have looked at my x-rays, then scans. I decided
against the surgery option offered by my doctors. They wanted to
cut up my foot, stick a few pins in it, and move a few bones around
that are in weird spots. It may have healed slightly better, but
either way, I'm going to have arthritis in a few years. Lovely.
I'll have the cast on for the next 6 weeks. bummer, huh? I'm feeling
better today though. I'm only on one vicodin right now. I'm still
out of it though; I keep forgetting what day it is.

New Look for the site...
Do you like the new look? Hate it? send me an email
and tell me what you think. I'm trying this one out for now. I've
got a few other designs simmering on the burner until I learn more
about using CSS for web page layout.

On Friday morning I was loading my car with my bike and protective
gear when I realized that the left front tire on my Subaru was flat.
Oh damn. Not a good way to start the day. I pulled out my floor
pump and filled the tire with enough air to coax it to the gas station
where I filled it up and headed to work. I almost dropped my plan
to head to Petaluma after work to ride Nor-Cal's main indoor park,
Ramp Rats. <more>

New trailer for East Bay Grease II
Check out Theo's newest trailer here.
I made the cut on this one! Sweet.
Just about everyone I've been riding with lately headed out to
Mammoth for a weekend of racing and fun. I've been getting low on
the funds lately (someone buy my Heckler plu-lease!) and I have
homework to get to, so I'm going to have to wait until next year.
However, I really needed to get my riding fix in, so my buddy Frank
and myself headed out to Livermore to check out Sandhill
Ranch. I've heard all about it, but have yet to make it up there.
I have been thinking about trying some Mt Cross racing, and P&R
Sports hosts a Biker Cross series, starting next weekend. <more>
