Some news...

School's
out! Now it's all about riding!
5/18/05
With all the
photography and killer riding we've been doing lately, I decided
it's time to finally step up to a prosumer camera. I've been doing
some shopping for Digital SLRs the last few days and have it narrowed
it down to one, the Canon Eos 20D.

SPOTS >> Carlmont, AKA DMC
Saturday we headed down
to Belmont to ride a cool new spot, (for me) called DMC. It's sweet
riding spot tucked up away in the hills above a ritzy area in the
South Bay, with jumps, gaps, ladders, and all sorts of stuff you
would expect in a DH playground. >> more
On a sour note, I'm not
having any luck with Sony regarding my dysfunctional camcorder.
Basically I should have purchased it somewhere that offered an extended
warranty, and since I didn't, I'm fucked. Sony charges of flat rate
of $269 just too look at it, and that is over half the replacement
cost for a similar camera. All I can say is don't buy a Sony. I
never will purchase a Sony product again. I've been scouting the
internet, and I'm not alone in this. I've run across many other
consumers that are as screwed over as myself. The good thing is
that I'm not alone, and I've joined a class action against the Sony
Corporation over the issue. I hope I have an update on that soon.

Ian from Westsidefreeride.com
sent me some links to his site. He has photos
and the first video
clips I've seen online yet from Chutes and Ladders, the Freeride
Contest that almost happened in Ashland last weekend. Check
it out!

Bad News for Freeriders
riding in Santa Cruz. To start, the Dead Campers Gap is not hittable
any more. There's more; our bad luck didn't stop there. >>
Bad Luck
When we got back to Berkeley, Ian told me about
a gap on UC Berkeley Campus. It was pretty cool, and almost kept
out day from being a total loss. Check it out.
The Fruita Fat Tire Festival
went down this week in Fruita, Colorado. I've been hearing about
it all week, here and there. Eric E sent me a link to some pics
shot on what looks like a killer ride with Jimmy Jericho(Josh) and
a bunch of the MTBR guys. The single track looks sick!
5/7/05 Nor-Cal Represent!
Check out this cool clip
my friend Theo made for the Fox 36 for 36 Contest!
There's a shot of me in it as well, hitting the Dead Campers Gap.
Check it out.
5/6/05 DH
BIKE FOR SALE!
I'm putting my Giant
DH up for sale. I was planning to start
riding it again, and built it back up, but when I got the chance
to pick up a Demo 8 for a super good price, it became a redundancy.
So if anyone knows someone that would like to get into a nice DH
bike for a good price, have them email me.

Chutes
and Ladders
Ashland, Oregon
is holding it's first freeride contest this weekend. Hopefully the
rain doesn't wash it out. I'm not going to make it up, but hopefully
some of the posse will report it with the story. I hope none of
the guys break themselves. They built up some big stuff. I just
checked out the site, and it looks like they posted some new pics.
It actually looks like it could turn out to be a big event, it's
coming together.
On a side note, this
article blew me away. You never know what to believe on the internet,
but my dream of becoming Batman
is one step closer.
5/3/05 ::Shout out to the East Bay Locals!::
Ian
Richards and Forrest Arakawa, two local fast guys, are featured
in two of the bike mags on the stands this month. Forrest is featured
on the cover of Mountain Bike, and Ian is featured in Mountain Biking
Magazine, in an article on North Star at Tahoe. You guys kick ass!
You're rock stars now!

Get Yo Berm On!
The guys have been busy digging out in El Cerrito this week. They've
been making a line down this hill that will make you work to clean
it. check it out!

My girlfriend Jamie and
I went down to Pleasanton
to do some recon on the BMX Park that is supposedly under construction
down there. I thought I had heard that is was ridable. Turns out
I was wrong, and it's still under way. In fact, it didn't look any
different than photos I saw some time ago. That was a bit disappointing,
but we did check out the Livermore BMX track, and I got to spend
more time on my Evil DOC. It was a lot of fun, until I found a thorn
in my tire. I absent mindedly pulled the thorn out, letting all
the air out of my tube, and effectively ending my day.
