The first unofficial
BikeSmart.com Hellride was held yesterday, on Mount Tam.
The Hellride consists on gearing up for a downhill shuttle down
Tam. The Hellride begins when the riders get lost, and what was
a downhill ride becomes a three hour bushwhacking cross country
ride on downhill bikes. Without padded cycling shorts. The winners
receive a citation on the shuttle vehicle and if they are lucky,
make it down to the car with leg cramps at dusk. whoo hoo!
I'm a winner! That said, the Demo 8 with a double worked
pretty good on an All Mountain ride. That said, next time I'm riding
my all mountain bike next time I ride all over the damn mountain.
Or does that make my all mountain bike my XC bike now, since I'm
using my dh bike as an all mountain bike?
This weekend we're heading
up to Ashland to hang out with the bro, ride with the guys, and
finish breaking in the Enduro. The first ride planned for it is
a 14 mile run down Mount Ashland. The ride has a little of everything,
and is the closest thing to a home trail I have, meaning the Enduro
will be ridden hard.

Hollywood is finally
getting comics right! Check out this picture of Ghostrider.
Straight out of the comics. And all they have to do to make an asscrap
load of money is to base the movie on the book that created it.
What an original concept. Look what they did with Batman Begins.
Damn, it was about time they made Batman a guy that actually exercised!
This guy's a ninja, and beats the crap out of people for fun! That's
what I'm talking about!
6/21/05 Enter
the Enduro!
My new Specialized Enduro
Pro showed up at the warehouse today. It's pretty exciting to have
a new bike in the stable.
I've been coveting the
new Fox 36 for some time now. I was looking to pick one up to run
on my Heckler. However, after pricing them out, I realized that
buying a bike with one already on it may be more cost effective.
(for me at least, since I work in bike industry and receive pro-bro
pricing) Enter the Enduro. I was extremely impressed with Specialized's
Enduro after riding one almost one
year ago.

It's new bike time again
here at I Hate Bikes. Yep. It's like an addiction. I have a new
bike on the way, and another bike for sale. Last fall I rode a Specialized
Enduro at the Dealer Demo in Santa Cruz. The impression left on
me from this bike was huge. I was so stoked on it that I was ready
buy one on the spot. However, I had just purchased a Santa Cruz
Heckler and built it up. I have been really happy with the performance
of my Heckler and wanted to give it some time. At this point, it
as already used, and there was no point to putting it on the market.
Recently my back has been sore after longer XC type rides though,
and I've decided that the longer top tube of the Specialized will
let me keep running the short stems I prefer.
I've taken a few days
off from riding trails until the Enduro arrives, and the Heckler
is in the stand getting stripped down and rebuilt from the frame
up, getting her ready for sale. If anyone is interested in picking
her up, drop me a line.

Downiville Opening Weekend Report:
Get ready for the snow
hike. Right now you're looking at a about 2 miles of walking before
the trail heads down. Check out a few shots from the BikeSmart/Mikes
Bikes Downiville Mission.

I
was hanging out at the All Out Productions clubhouse, and was checking
out all the footage Theo has been accumulating. I found some footage
from our session at DMC. Check this still
out- it's another angle on the ravine gap. I also found footage
of the hip jump over the bush.

Secret Spots >> North Bay
We're pretty
lucky to have some sweet riding close by for after work access down
here. I work in San Rafael, which is located in the North Bay Area.
China Camp, Tamarancho, Mt. Tam are all near by options for fun
in the dirt. The drawback is that most of the trails are illegal
to ride on. That said, check out these cool trails that may or not
be legal. >>more

I ordered my new camera
yesterday. I should have it by midweek. Pretty exciting.
Rage Films has posted
several clips of their riders launching the Chutes and Ladders in
Ashland from the Contest that never happened. Check it out here.

Memorial Day weekend
was a blast. We spent our weekend up North. We camped out Friday
and Saturday at Castle Crags State Park. Many beers were drank.
Good times. We then headed further north to Medford, Oregon for
some family time. And of course, some riding; The Medford Bmx track
just happens to be within riding distance of Izaak's house.

With all the
photography and killer riding we've been doing lately, I decided
it's time to finally step up to a prosumer camera. I've been doing
some shopping for Digital SLRs the last few days and have it narrowed
it down to one, the Canon Eos 20D.

SPOTS >> Carlmont, AKA DMC
Saturday we headed down
to Belmont to ride a cool new spot, (for me) called DMC. It's sweet
riding spot tucked up away in the hills above a ritzy area in the
South Bay, with jumps, gaps, ladders, and all sorts of stuff you
would expect in a DH playground. >> more
On a sour note, I'm not
having any luck with Sony regarding my dysfunctional camcorder.
Basically I should have purchased it somewhere that offered an extended
warranty, and since I didn't, I'm fucked. Sony charges of flat rate
of $269 just too look at it, and that is over half the replacement
cost for a similar camera. All I can say is don't buy a Sony. I
never will purchase a Sony product again. I've been scouting the
internet, and I'm not alone in this. I've run across many other
consumers that are as screwed over as myself. The good thing is
that I'm not alone, and I've joined a class action against the Sony
Corporation over the issue. I hope I have an update on that soon.

Ian from Westsidefreeride.com
sent me some links to his site. He has photos
and the first video
clips I've seen online yet from Chutes and Ladders, the Freeride
Contest that almost happened in Ashland last weekend. Check
it out!

Bad News for Freeriders
riding in Santa Cruz. To start, the Dead Campers Gap is not hittable
any more. There's more; our bad luck didn't stop there. >>
Bad Luck
When we got back to Berkeley, Ian told me about
a gap on UC Berkeley Campus. It was pretty cool, and almost kept
out day from being a total loss. Check it out.
The Fruita Fat Tire Festival
went down this week in Fruita, Colorado. I've been hearing about
it all week, here and there. Eric E sent me a link to some pics
shot on what looks like a killer ride with Jimmy Jericho(Josh) and
a bunch of the MTBR guys. The single track looks sick!
