I found
a website that had a lot of cool information on Nor-Cal trails. http://www.ogrehut.net
I definitely
plan on riding everything the Bay Area has to offer. My co-worker Edward
and I have some epic rides planned. He turned me on to the site. I'm still
dialing my bike in. I just got a 90mm thomson stem for the Heckler. Hopefully
I'll still be able to keep weight on the front end while climbing.
Jamie
and I are heading up to Ashland tomorrow to hang out with my brother Izaak,
Julie, Alex, Molly and the rest of the posse. I'm sure I'll be posting
some pictures when I get back.
Michelle
gave me an update from Carrie about her knee:
Sounds
knarly.
I broke the radius in a rare inward distal splinter
fracture (which I did know about), broke my scaphoid in half and shattered
the lower portion into about 7 pieces (I knew it was broken but when they
got in there it was in more pieces than showed on the x-rays), displaced
the lunate, triquetral, pisiform, and traqezium (the small round bones
that make up your palm and wrist junction) about a quarter of an inch
sideways of my hand, and through most of the tendons and ligaments in
underside of my hand and wrist. After my surgery, my doctor told me the
only thing really holding my hand on to my wrist was the skin. Most everything
else was broken or severed.
So I have two permanent plates, 8 screws holding them on, and one screw
through my scaphoid holding it and a bone graft (from my hip) together.
Tendons and ligaments were tacked back in place and I have a pin holding
the displaced hand bones in place (and it sticks out the side of my hand
by like 1/2 inch)!! I'll probably be in cast into december and chances
are I won't be able to race DH next year. I'm hoping to recovered enough
to ride some XC in the spring, and maybe do a couple of super d races
by the end of the season. Whether or not I will be able to race DH again
is still not clear. It really all depends on if the tendons repair themselves
and if the bone graft takes. There's still a possibility that either the
four main hand bones will have to be fused together or my wrist and hand
will have to be fused together if those things don't heal and re-grow.
But, thats not something I'm focusing on. I'm trying to focus on healing
and being healthy so my body can recover. The crappy part is that they
won't know if the graft took for at least two more months.
Keep healing and try to stay sane! the inactivity is killing me!

Michelle sent
an update on her knee.. it looks nasty. Guess she's had two operations
on it already. Check it out here.
Just came back from Specialized's 2005 dealer clinic where I rode my next
bike..which kind of sucks, because I'm just now getting used to my
new Heckler! This basically means my Heckler will be going up for sale
in November, for anyone that will be interested. I'm feeling torn a little
about it, I mean, I just got it and all; however, I rode bike that felt
like it was built for me. And when it feels that good, you just have to
go with it.

here's some
interesting news from Michelle D:
So here was my
weekend, and since you know Carrie, I'll send this. My weekend was eventful. On
Friday, Carrie and I drove to Spokane because we were staying at Sara's
(one of the top ranked pro mountain biking women in the country) house.
We rode Mt. Spokane that evening with Sara and Paul - a fun long downhill
single track all the way down with the exception of about a mile of a
grueling climb. We got up early Saturday morning and went to Schweitzer
when Sara's sister Laura arrived sinceSchweitzer is where they are having
the NORBA nationals this weekend. more |
