Secret Spot: 101

To find these secret trails, you're going to have to go Mike's Bikes in San Rafael and talk to the guys that dig and maintain them, Drew and Eric(note- correction, Drew and Derrick). They've been pretty secretive about their location, and after finally hanging out after work long enough to follow them out there, I know why. A lot of work went into these trails. Fortunetly, they are well hidden. Even when you find the trail that leads to them, you have to duck between blackberry bushes and a chain link fence and follow the trail back into the woods. This leads to an open area well hidden by bushes and trees that is cut off on one side by a swamp. It's an impressive site.

The trails consist of one line. That's it. Imagine a bmx type trail of jumps that wind around trees, with carefully constructed and manicured lips, berms, and landings. The landings are protected from sloppy landings with carpet, and well cared for. There are no easy jumps. You show up with game, or stand around and watch. The first jump is a small speed jump with a sizeable gap, designed to discourage anyone without the experience to ride the technical line.

Today I ended up in the latter group. With my Evil DOC down for the moment, I was carrying no game at all. Curse my broken cranks!

One more thing I should mention is that because there isn't much room to pedal, all the jumps have to be pumped. Dual suspension bikes are going to have a problem here.
